Looks Good Enough to Eat . . . ?

Now, don't get me wrong here people, I like eating as much as the next person. I mean, honestly, I do it everyday; multiple times a day even.

And, as a guest at a wedding, I do realize that traveling to see a wedding and partying it up, can make for quite the appetite. I know that many folks have dessert or cocktail receptions nowadays, but some (like Mr. Giraffe & I) still have sit down reception dinners. This is all very common, people, don't be surprised.

I mean, there's usually a dinner, and my favorite part, a cake (image source).
And being the totally considerate and helpful guest I often am, I always eat the cake. I mean, its my duty as a wedding guest, honestly.

And dessert tables? Well, Mr. G and I are having one of those for sure (more on that later, though) (image source).
So I'm all about eating dessert for sure. Nope, no gripes about it at all And at a wedding? Why not! Bring on the cake!

But the menus? No, I'm not talking about reading the menu to see what tasty treats are in store. I'm talking about what menus I saw via an email link from the Knot.
No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, and yes, that is what you think it is . . . If you're thinking its an edible menu (also image source)!! What in the world?! I know, I know, it's a crazy idea.

I mean, sure its kind of neat, but I'm guessing this bride didn't think about what would happen when her ravenous guests start chomping down on those menus while waiting for their plates. If they've all ready eaten the menu, how will they ever know what showing up for the next course?! Clearly, this could turn the whole reception into chaos. That is definitely a risk I'm not willing to take, but its still an interesting idea.

I'm actually not entirely sure this has ever been done before; I'm wait for the wedding police to either confirm or deny this rumor.

Has anybody ever had/seen/eaten an edible menu??

Holy Modern Art, Batman!

So I was an art major in college, and am currently a graphic designer. What does this mean, you say? It means I have an appreciation for art that some don't . . . similar to the way Mr. Giraffe has an appreciation for music that I don't (and possibly never will?). Anyway, I may have hated those four semesters of art history at the time, but I have come to look up to the artists that have come before me, and hope to one day impact the world like they have.

What does this all mean? Simple. . . I like art. Also, I like weddings! And as an artist, I would want art to be part if a wedding perhaps. . . But how could I do this?! I'll tell you! It's so simple, but not simple at all. It's the cake!

A little Piet Mondrian, maybe? Tasty, I know! There are no words to describe this cake! It's art and cake at the same time! (And two of my favorite things too. Coincidence? I think not.) Om nom nom nom nom.

First off, I have no idea how this cake was made. Believe it or not, all those episodes of Cake Boss haven't made me the pasty chef I thought I could be. From my novice baking skills of a birthday cake or two, I know that there must be layers to this cake? Although how they made all those layers possible without being exactly the same size or exactly right on top of each other, I have no idea. All though, using my sleuthing skills, I was able to deduce that food coloring was used. That doesn't explain the mystery though! Ahhh, I guess I just have to be impressed by it.

I found out about Chocmocakes cakes from the cake wrecks blog (not for a wreck though, it was shown as a good cake).

Either way, Chocmocakes has had a genius idea! . . .A surprising genius idea!

What if you wanted to serve pie at your wedding (and why not, I love pie)? Then all your guests would sit down, take a bite, and surprise. That's not pie at all!!! It's a cake that looks like a pie (and very convincing too)!

I don't know if it's because this idea just makes me giggle, is super cute & clever, or just that I love all things cake, but this is just great! I'm sure all your guests would be amused at something so silly (And cute).

That's a party cake, for sure.

Has anyone ever visited White Flower Cakes? I hadn't, but I found the link via another blog that wasn't in English so I had no idea what it was saying, but it was a cake blog :). Anyway, I headed over to the gallery and found a cake that just really made me smile. I've been on the fence about if we want a traditional cake, or something a little more hip, but this one in definitely in the hip category. (source for all images)

So I just love this cake! As a huge fan of color, it just blows me away.

The Daphne, eh? So after I read that, I had to find the Daphne. Needless to say, I was blown away, and now even more smitten with more 'contemporary' cakes. What White Flower Cakes says about the Daphne, "Vivid colors, retro patterns and a lush sugar bow topper make this cake an amazing centerpiece for your reception"

As if that wasn't enough for you to drool over, take a quick look at the Velma. "Bold vibrant colors and a tropical floral patterns give this cake a fresh summer feel, perfect for an outdoor wedding."

So, naturally, I'm completely in love with those cakes. Mr. Giraffe is definitely a more traditional kind of guy. But, White Flower has a number of traditional, and traditional with a twist cakes also.

Cute! I love cake toppers!

Trust me, I fully intend to dedicate a post to cake toppers and the many many reasons why I love them (not to mention the hundreds of options that are available). There are no words to describe the love I have for them and all their cuteness!

But for now, I just want to share this with everyone. Adorable, no? It seems like so many people think about doing bird themed weddings. This could be totally appropriate.
